I just dropped $10K on an engine rebuild that is going to get me another 30 years of life and it’s more than capable to get me where I want to go to fish and more capable than that new 4Runner. I plan to keep this LC until I die and at that time I’m sure one of my sons will take it over and continue with it.
I agree. We're currently spending $10K on my wife's Chevy 2500 to replace the turbo, diesel particulate filter, and EGR. The parts are new OEM. A new diesel Chevy 2500 LTZ is $80K, and we know the history of this truck, all the factory recommended maintenance has been done, the compression is good, and we just had the front/rear differentials serviced along with a fluid flush and fill of the transfer case, and the transmission filter and fluid. $10K should give us many more years of life. A diesel pickup that is properly maintained should get 400-500K miles and likely go through at least one turbo.

Nice! I have a Fender Lead III that was my Christmas present 40 years ago this year. It was my first "nice" guitar. I've had a few nicer guitars since, but it still plays great and I'd never consider getting rid of it.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting the OPs question, but I think most people in this thread are missing the point: If the cost of entry to buy a bike was $14K, would you still be a cyclist? Personally, I'm not sure that I would. I'd choose to trail run, hike, or go driving in an older Boxster (or other fun car) that could be had for the same $14K instead.

Cyclist purpleness contrasted with cyclist practicality?

I have what is almost the OP's bike. It's a 2006 Allez Elite w/ Ultegra and the aluminum Columbus SLX frame. AFAIC it's a great bike. If it was the only bike that I could have, I could live with that.
I paid $200 for it off Craigslist.
