Rim Brake Perfection, lets fan boy yours..
Cleans wording Rim Brake "Titanium" Perfection lit a light bulb.
There is a huge contingent of us that either came back from the dark 'disc' side for road bikes. Or decided the disc Allroad was not the replacement and came back. To some it just never made sense. Maybe a 15 year window age wise? My Domane [RSL/SLR] is last year rim brake for the line, and squarely my #1 as the Helix Pro disc road bike hangs. I use the Allroads for all roads not paved myself with 35-40mm tirz. My #2 is 15 year old Nago Extreme Power. Will add pics from phone... Long live 28" rotors.

I would love to find one of those Cervelo R3 muds. Those were pretty cool.

My gravel bike has hydraulic disc brakes and I like it a lot. If/when I buy a new road frame, I am sure it will be disc brake based on just the reality of options.
I wish I rode my road bikes hard enough and fast enough, through challenging enough terrain for me to feel like disc brakes would be best. Instead, here I sit, knowing the bikes below are more bike than I even really need. This has been my main road bike for years now- built in a winter frame class I took almost 6 years ago. Clearance for 35mm tires, but 32 sit on there. 2x11 drivetrain with TRP957 midreach brake calipers. I tore the orange bike apart this past spring to fully clean it inside out and its been hanging on a hook in my basement ever since. Mix of lazy and too busy with so many other things. My main road bike this season has been a Cannondale CAAD3 that I repainted, added a carbon fork, and put a 2x11 drivetrain on. The frame size just barely works, but the ride is ton of fun so I keep delaying on the orange frame rebuild. Last edited by mstateglfr; 09-25-2023 at 03:30 PM. |

Oooh, that's a beautiful green, Rob.
Here's mine. It's not the apex of rim brake performance bikes, but I made a few small modifications to this '92 Trek 2300 and it came out exactly the way I wanted it to, so for me it is the apex of what it is. Couldn't resist a purple bike for ~$200 on FB Marketplace, bought it just to cruise around on...but it was so good looking that I wanted to ride it more, and in more places. So a very fancy stem, seat post, new cassette, bar tape, saddle, and some Dura Ace C24 wheels (actually the apex of rim brake wheels, I think!) later... Mstate, that Caad3 is stunning. Great job on the paint. Can you please tell me a little or a lot about how it rides? I'm thinking of one for myself.
Also your painting process. I don't think we ride the same size (I'm 5'11", prefer a 54, can ride a 56) or I'd be pm'ing you an offer right now instead of making this post. |

Not mine, but this looks like peak rim brake to me:

I currently own two disc brake bikes (a fatbike and XC) and I have really tried hard to like them. I just don't. I think they are fickle to set up, they groan or squeal with the slightest of contamination on the discs and are a pain to bleed. I don't have any room in my life for them on my road bikes. I'll keep my rim brakes indefinitely even if that means I'm only buying old bikes (like I don't already anyway).

I've got mine... Only bike where I haven't changed any parts since building it back in 2017. Would like to add a Pronto to the fleet along with it, but we'll see how that turns out.

Amazing braking power with rear wheel sliding all over the trail when I want to lock it up.
