Bike shopping for a friend

A friend of mine who is recently retired an 70 years old asked me about a new road bike. His current bike is a 1990s Allez Epic.
We used to to ride together a lot but he has not ridden much for a long time but is in decent shape from other activities.
The first thing that came to my mind is a Specialized Aethos.
I am not sure if it might be too aggressive for him or not.
They are some pretty good deals right now on the Ultegra Di2 version ($4600)
I think this is a good starting point. Any others to consider?
