Concur. I find the braking on the WTOs to be as good, if not better, than alloy. I wouldn't ride them in the rain. Not because I'd be worried about the diminished braking performance, but because I don't ride in the rain these days.
Don't drag brake on long descents and you'll be fine. I'm 6'2"/200 lbs and wouldn't hesitate to ride my WTOs on any descent. Even though Tuna Canyon isn't a personal favorite, I'd be fine to ride my WTOs there as well.
