It's always better with a story like that behind it!

Story about my GMT master..kinda long.

When in second tour in USN..not a bunch of $(1978)..so, sometimes wife and I wandered around indoor malls..in Phoenix..HOT..I jokingly always asked wife..'ohh a Rolex, can I have one?"..well, one afternoon, she said, 'ok'..I was TAD(Temp Additional Duty), so got paid perdium, extra $ and the local USN reserve CPO, who did my paperwork(I was USAF Exchange)..gave me accompanied perdium..pretty big, extra $..so into a local jewelry store and bought the GMT Master $645..well, 2 days later, inside fogged up(huh??)..back to store, 'that's normal, since it was in the hot case'..poppycock I thought but ok..it cleared then did it again..back to store..'we opened up the watch and see that the back is bent..looks like you took it somewhere else and they damaged it'...Absolute BS..

So..a guy in the squadron recommend that I send it to Rolex NY..did and a wonderful gent, Mr Rosen..checked the serial number and discovered it wasn't a new watch but used..sold as new 6 years ago..so store was selling a used, damaged GMT master as new..

Presented this to store's owner(it was a chain)and mentioned a lawyer..

He said to take watch back to store..and they will give me a new one..they did, called Rolex NY with serial number..and they confirmed..new..THAT one, I have(41 years 'young') and will keep...

so...

I can't seem to help myself. There are so many fun watches in this category I keep acquiring, wearing for a very short time (if at all), and then selling.
A few recent pickups...although these will probably end up as "catch and release" like the others.

Seiko SNZH55 - I had this one modded to look like a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and with an upgraded movement, sapphire crystal, etc.

Seiko SNZF17 - I had this one modded to look like a vintage Rolex Submariner and with an upgraded movement, sapphire crystal, etc.

Collins Hyperion (blue dial) - this colorway has not yet been released but I was able to acquire it when I met the brand owner at the WindUp Watch Fair in NYC last week.

I have a bunch of straps I am going to clear out....figured I'd post it here as its appropriate audience (on wrong forum).

All are bespoke Atelier de Griff Straps.

1. Bespoke Atelier de Griff Strap- clasp specific. Calf in a Portofino dark brown. 20mm @ the lug. Never worn as it did not fit my clasp. You can see here

2. Same as above but w/tang and I wore it in rotation for a year (so ~50-60 days).

3. same as #1 but in a 'portofino tan" and the stitch is cream / off white. 20 at the lug and 18 at the clasp. Never worn.

How about $45 (each) for 1 & 3 and $30 for 2. These are very nice, high quality. I probably have a few others that I need to sell as well. Can send pics if interested. TIA!

I love every minute this is on my wrist. It's a recent purchase and my first "really nice" watch. It's a keeper!

Great piece, not sure it it’s the angle but it looks huge on you. But as long as the lugs aren’t past the edges of your wrist during actual wear no fashion rules are broken.

Enjoy!

Thanks! It's definitely the angle of my shot that makes it look huge.
It wears well, and isn't garish. This is important to me, being a Midwesterner and all hahaha

Louis, sorry, I'm not sure why it isn't visible on your end.

It's a Rolex GMT Master II, 11670LN (the one with the ceramic all black bezel).

Very nice.

(I think the firewall on this computer must not like that image hosting site.)

I bought this new in 1998, it has been a very nice piece and a bit sentimental as I bought when my daughter was born.

Sometimes I think a watch would be nice and then I shop around for one and then I never end up getting one. Usually because I end up deciding I want some kind of really expensive watch and then decide I don't want to spend the money. For a long time I wanted a Ploprof.

Recently I took the plunge and purchased a relatively cheap seiko SRPD77. I almost got an arnie but in the end an automatic is more appealing, plus I like the strange green texture on the face.

I like the watch, nice size and helpful at night when I want to see the time without lighting up the whole room. I also do like being able to peak at the time without getting the phone out.

The NATO band it came with started to split at the hole I was using so I got a new one from Crown and Buckle, it is much nicer.

I fell strange wearing a "dive" watch sometimes.
