The LBS had a Lemond that one of their customers wanted to sell. It was a canti bike, but the clearances looked too tight to put tires suitable for use on the gravel around here or even just put fenders on. Beautiful bike though. Wasn't tempting enough to ask how much they wanted.

My cross bike, an Alan, but CF, has been sadly gathering dust. There used to be a couple of races per year in my little town and I resolved to answer the call up this year but alas, I have to drive an hour for the closest race. Probably won’t happen. Not to mention racing in 80 degree weather just ain’t right.
I recently used my cross bike wheel to test fit tire size on another bike and realized I used to never give tire width a second thought for cross racing, just tread type. Typical tire width was around 30 mm which I guess would be unusual now. |

If I want to start a thread on a Friday in praise of a simpler time in CX racing when IMO the bikes looked better and the racing was more interesting when braking was more of a question than a feature, that's what I'll do.

I am sooooo here for this thread.
I have been on a huge vintage cx bike kick. the only thing that could compel me to sell my Parlee Z CX is something from the list below and it would probably end up being n+1. Cantis suck. Mini motos are far worse than discs. I don't ride the parlee all that much vs everything else but damn are they nice bikes to look at. |

I have thinking of selling my Litespeed CX with canti posts. With all this retro canti love now maybe the time.

You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. I raced it for years with campy 2x10 and various tubular wheelsets. Originally had mini moto brakes but switched to the Avid brakes probably 10 years ago. (yes it's in road riding format currently)
