Veloflex tires will soon be no more

From a CR list poster:

Quote:
Here is the reply directly from Veloflex in Italy:

"Dear customer, We inform you that the Veloflex company will soon cease its activity. This choice, after years of work and having tried to offer the bicycle market products that are always at the top of the quality, was made with difficulty precisely because of the market trend and the conditions that have been created. We would like to thank you for the trust you have given us in the past years and we wish you a prosperous future."
Sad. I had a few Veloflex tires over the years and while they were expensive, they rolled very fast and smoothly.

Do I stock up or do I find a new replacement tire and switch now?

Depends what you’re riding.

I gotta say the tyres coming out of Pirelli’s new Milano factory are the best I’ve ever held, felt, ridden. Incredible unrivalled quality. And I rode veloflex exclusively for 5 years before switching.

Damn! Crappy news on a Monday morning.

I sold a pair of new 25 Masters a few months ago thinking I'd replace them with 28s some time in the not so distant future.

I was wondering why the stock on Merlin was limited and dwindling.

Thanks for the heads up tho.

Sad to read this. They’ve been around since 1981.

A small player in an industry that has giants like Michelin, Continental, Pirelli and Panaracer.

Not a peep about this on the Veloflex web site.

I'm not gonna get my panties in a bunch until I see confirmation from a reputable source.

this is really bad news if true.

What would be the closest in feel/performance that one could get in other tubulars? Perhaps Vittoria open corsa?

That'd be my choice.
