The first 4:30 a.m. cycling alarm clock of the year.

It's MSR, so you could probably take a 4 or 5 hour nap and not miss a thing. Tune in 30 minutes before the Cipressa.

I wouldn't bet against Van der Poel or Pogacar, which probably means someone else will win. MVDP hasn't yet raced this year, so he may lack a bit of race snap.

No, but an hour power nap before the Turchino was unexpected but pleasant.

What a finish. So many riders up there to root for - Pedersen, Bettiol, Pidcock, Matthews… I was cheering for each of them at different times. Alaphillipe with a great ride too. Money’s on Pedersen & Bettiol in coming classics (VanDerPoel & Pogacar as well - though they don’t seem at a much higher level than the others).

I actually think van der Poel and Pogacar did look like they were on a higher level than the rest, but they neutralized each other.

What a great finish! Current & former world champs (road and cyclocross), classics & monument winners, and grand tour winners all fighting it out. MSR never disappoints. This spring classics season is shaping up to be, well… classic!

That was quite the start to the Monuments this year. Fastest MSR to date. I wonder if some of that has to do with the cycling culture, like now races start right off the start gun where as in the olden days they might chill out a bit before the racing begins.

I think the biggest factor in making races more aggressive is the improvement in aerodynamics of the bikes and riders. Obviously this has a direct effect of making riders go faster, but just as importantly, it encourages more attacking. The lower the wind resistance, the lower the cost to attacking, and the lower the benefit of sitting in the peloton.
