Apple AirPods for riding maybe?
I finally decided to give the Apple air pods a chance and I'm considering riding with them or trying the idea out. A few years ago I read about people losing them on rides. Anyone have experience with them? I decided to go with the Pro 2 model for I thought they would be less likely to fly out compared to the new model.

They stay in pretty decently if you spend the time to try different tips and the calibration tool in the app. If riding with them, it's worth putting the transparency on in order to hear cars/surroundings better.

I like aftermarket foam tips for better security and sound quality: https://www.complyfoam.com/products/...s-pro-ear-tips. Ditto on transparency mode for situational awareness.

Add Waterproof Tape
For this DIY method of keeping AirPods in your ears, you'll need some waterproof tape. The Nexcare 3M brand is typically recommended as it's sticky and durable. Next, you'll need a regular hole punch to cut out circular pieces or scissors to cut out rectangular strips of tape. I'm considering giving this method a try as well too... |

I could never get AirPods to fit well enough to wear outside. They’re for for work but not exercise.

I'll echo the Shokz recommendations, and specifically mention the OpenRun Pro 2. I had a pair of the OpenRun and they were adequate for listening to music on the bike but the audio quality wasn't very good. Thin for sure. They offered a free trial of the OpenRun Pro 2 so I took them up on it and I was very impressed. The quality isn't as good as my AirPod Pros, but way better than the base model OpenRun. Good enough in fact that I don't mind using them off the bike when I could also be using my AirPod Pros. Any time noise cancelation is needed (on the Kickr for instance) I'm going with the AirPod Pros, but I never loved riding with them even on transparency mode.

I'd recommend something more like the Shokz openrun or H2O audio bone conduction style of headphones.
Work better than transparency mode for ability to hear surroundings, and don't have as much distortion in sound from wind noise. This coming from an airpods pro & h2o audio user. They don't have noise cancelling, but I've never felt it necessary when riding, running or even swimming. |

I sometimes ride with one in one ear only and wear a headband to cover it so it cant fall out.

Airpods don't stay in well enough for me to use them during any activity.
But I see others wearing em on the basketball court. Valley all court, cycling, etc. I ride with jlab ANC Air Sport earbuds- they are the more expensive over the ear hook style. The case charges with a cord or wireless charger, you can customize what 3 different taps in each earbuds means, they aut9nplay and auto stop, and best of all- they stay when riding. I don't ever use 'be aware' mode because I can hear ambient noise just fine on the regular setting. The ear buds don't plug and lock into my ear canal so noise cancelation isn't a concern. |

Air pods worked well then the batteries started holding less of a charge, so I upgraded to the Pros a few years ago. Never got a secure fit despite trying all of the different tips and using the app, kept sliding out. Finally lost one of them and now using the Beats Fit Pro, which have wings that provide a more secure fit. Everyone's ears are different, so trying them out if you can is advised.
