One of the great country music songwriters, and a very good actor too.

Aw geesh! I didn't realize he was that far up there. Another one of the greats gone. Rest in peace.

RIP. He was multi-talented. Me and Bobby McGee was one of the best written songs ever.

Sunday Mornin Comin Down hit me hard at one stage in my life. Great song and best sung by it's author.
Waylon, John and now Kris. Sucks when the legends move on but weren't we lucky to enjoy them while they lived. RIP KK. |

I think Janis Joplin sang the best version.

Astounding lyricist, IMO. So many of his songs were touching, pensive - almost a shock of mild surprise, reflecting the human condition.....
RIP KK.

The NYT obit was good. Talked about how he had to change his writing style to arrive at "the distinctive mix of vernacular and sophisticated idioms that became his stock in trade" - largely undoing the literary style that evolved from his education and background-there was that Rhodes scholarship, etc.
Also striking the risk he took leaving a pretty much secure and predictable career path to work as a janitor in Nashville. |

Sad
But the songs go on
Most times i pull out my guitar I play ‘Sunday morning come down’ and ‘loving her was easier’ —almost always one of those is among the songs I play each time. |
