Jonny Gaudreau

If you haven't yet heard, JG of the Blue Jackets was killed while cycling. His brother was killed too, the day before their sister's wedding. Mercy.

What's even more maddening is that the driver (DUI), tried to pass on the RIGHT of another vehicle that had moved over to pass the brothers.

Thanks.

Unimaginable tragedy is right. Can you even imagine? Everyone is in town for sister's wedding. Should be a happy time, and then one drunk driving moron ruins countless lives.

Sounds like an SUV was doing the right thing and giving the cyclists a wide pass and the jackass saw that opening as an opportunity to pass on the inside.

Hope he rots in jail.

"Higgins allegedly told investigators that he thought the driver of the SUV was trying to stop him from passing. Higgins told investigators that his consumption of alcohol contributed to his impatience and reckless driving, according to the criminal complaint."

That's a Philly suburb too, not the sticks.

Very easy to get Uber/Lyft to take you home if you've had one too many pops after work. No excuse. Throw the book at him.

I'll bet his 'lawyer' will plea deal the crap out of this and I doubt he'll see any real jail time. He may not have a license but he'll drive again..and drink and drive.

Two counts of second-degree (?) death by auto. Driving while intoxicated. Consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. Having an open alcohol container in a vehicle. Improper passing. Reckless driving. Making an unsafe lane change.

If he does no jail time there should be mass protests. (There won't be, but there should be.)

Tragic and horrific beyond words. Until crimes like this lead to life sentences, I don’t see their numbers diminishing significantly. Two life sentences without chance of parole would not be inappropriate in my book. Sadly, the perp will likely be back on the streets in 10-20 years.

For those not familiar with hockey, Johnny is a perennial All Star and over the past decade was one of the best players in the NHL. This is shocking and devastating news.
