AB OS PW peak insanity

Just saw this on a GCN video. I never really got the point of the average rider getting an oversize pulley wheel but this stuff has really jumped the shark. Absolute Black has a new one for $1,099 but you have to send them a photo of your bike to see if you are deemed worthy of their product! Maybe just marketing hype but the bike industry really seems to be aimed more and more to the 1%. Or, at least those with more money than brains. However, if they sell, who am I to complain?

Owing to the limited and very complicated production of our latest creation, only selected requests will be considered. To express your interest in acquiring this extraordinary piece, kindly contact us via email, accompanied by a photograph of your bicycle. Should your masterpiece reflect the exceptional calibre of our design, you may be extended a personal invitation to purchase.

OTOH, I just saw this on Ceramic Speed's site https://ceramicspeed.com/products/os...-red-force-axs
A $2,960 version they claim to have sold out....what a world.

Ridiculous.

And there's nothing to stop you from sending a picture of a bike you don't own. I might send them a picture of Pogacar's latest yellow TdF bike or MvdP's Canyon. It's a shame i don't have a pic of the Stingray I had as a kid. Banana seat, high bars, 3 speed, and purple. I attached a Tony the Tiger tail to the back of the seat for extra coolness. Or maybe it was an Esso "put a tiger in your tank" tail, I dunno.

It's actually hilarious, some twits who are willing to shell that amount of money on a fancy jockey wheel are gonna get kicked in the gonads instead and laughed at because their bikes are not "cool enough" to deserve buying whatever these snake oil salesmen try to sell.

I agree this is peak ridiculousness.

The simple bicycle continues to get more and more expensive and complicated.

When component manufacturers look to jockey wheels as the next boondoggle boutique $$$ product to convince people they must have, we're over the top.

They'll probably sell some though, or at least give them away to the influencers to take nice instagram photos of

I have no problem spending $$ for nice things but I find the whole exclusivity angle distasteful and antithetical to what cycling means for me. I'd be embarrassed to have that on my bike.

I'm sorry but I was looking for the typical Paceline remarks on product pricing. Something along the lines of "if you don't like it, don't buy it".

If you subscribe by this philosophy, you cannot complain about this AB product.
To the Americans on Main Street, our $5500 Made in Taiwan Aethos is just as ridiculous.

Honestly, if AB can get it for those prices, great for them. This is the free market.

All of the bike industry is marketing. All of it.

I don't think anyone here is saying they should not be allowed to sell this type of thing. And, we have every right to ridicule the hell out of them.

Maybe AB has the screening process so Hambini doesn't get his hands on one?

Hambini wouldn't buy it, one of his fans would and send it to him. Maybe AB will make you sign a contract that states you won't send it to him?
