Something wrong w/ this spider?
I was installing my elilee x-novanta crankset yesterday and all went well until I looked at the 4 bolt spider (110 - shimano compatible).
The spider has no tabs (notches) for the chainrings to rest upon (see pics). This is the spider that came w/ the crankset, but does not look like the spiders elilee has pictured on their site. I'm wondering if this is safe to ride as is. |

I wouldn't think so.

A great many cranks mount chainrings without lands (i.e. positioned and held only with the chainring bolts), and don't appear to have a problem. This includes cranks made by Campagnolo, Shimano, SRAM, and many others. I haven't heard of a problem with this.

Thanks - just wanted to be sure. First time not using a 5 bolt 110 spider. The only reason I suspected anything is the 5 bolt spider does have the tabs/shoulder/landing - whatever you call them.

If your chainring bolts arent doing this, you will have problems very quickly. |
