Need help: Vintage Campagnolo Shamal wheel type
Hello all,
I bought the below Campagnolo Shamal wheelset with campa record hubs 700c 8sp. I guess the hubs are campa record as the have the oil valve and other models don't have that. There is no "Record" mentioned anywhere. My question, does anyone know what the model name of this set is? There are only Campagnolo and Shamal labels on it but not a label with the model name. Thanks in advance for your input. IMG_1697.jpg IMG_1698.JPG IMG_1699.jpg IMG_1700.JPG IMG_1701.jpg IMG_1702.jpg IMG_1703.JPG |

Shamal is the model. Shamal had record hubs. The lower end wheels were the vento amd scirocco.

Stickers
One more question, you see different shamal stickers on the rims when you surf the internet, what does the sticker I have say about the wheel?
The below mentioned are different than mine? Does this say anything about the time or type or??? Shamal 2.jpg |

The stickers changed over time.
On my list above, the first three had variants of the pink decal. The straight pull wheels said hpw-12 under shamal. The last one was an all silver decal as the rims were changed to black. These black wheels no longer said hpw even though it was the same hub as the prior hpw wheels. I think your decals were only used a short time on the first 16 spoke wheels. I've seen them before, but maybe only one or twice. |

The original Shamal's also came in a SL model.

BTW, you can convert those to 9/10/11 speed (unlike some of the later models ) IFF you can find the proper freehub body.....

HPW, the FH body sat too low in the hub shell and the big cog hit the shell.

I don't recall what I used (cassette) originally when I built my wife's Serotta CSI back in '94/'95.....maybe Campy ti, maybe Boone cogs. Later I upgraded the bike to 9 speed using ActionTec ti cassette. My wife is riding her Serotta again and I found a lock ring (ActionTec lockring cracked) for her 650c Shamals.......one sharp looking machine.

Remko pal, not to hijack your thread but rather since we are on topic with Shamal...
So, I scored a rear Shamal rim recently from my co-op and been thinking about how to build it up. Apparently it uses the G3 lacing pattern. I looked on eBay and boy, those proprietary spokes are expensive, remind me of the Ksyriums. The question is: first of all, where do I find a G3-compatible hub? |

The original model Shamal is forever immortalized in the annals of awesomeness for their being utilized in this (admittedly enhanced) performance:
