Why can't posters stay on topic

If I were king of the forum, this would be my first edict:

If you don't have anything constructive to contribute to the topic, please refrain from posting.

(The Notre Dame thread has pushed me over the edge)!!

Why does the forum even allow off topic threads to be started?

This thread has nothing to do with bikes.

me too

These are very divisive times. Lots of anger, hostility, regardless of who or where it 'seems' to come from. I feel it everyday and often feel helpless to do anything..so, not surprising the discussions go OT and sometimes bump into the forum rules..Not unlike a bunch of people standing around with a beer in their hand yaking...some 'rules' there too. I had a VERY 'spirited discussion' with a good friend of mine over mexican food and margaritas...we are still friends...
