Is there a frame material/type of bike you regret not owning?

Bikes are functional works of art to me. Aesthetics are very important.

Along those lines, I’ve always been intrigued by carbon bikes, but I’ve never owned one. Most of them don’t appeal to me aesthetically at all. Particularly the dropped chain stays. Similarly, most modern MTB bikes look like they’ve been hit with the ugly stick. None of the trails I ride require full suspension, so I don’t have any regrets about never straddling one.

I think the only regret I might have is never riding a quality steel frame with a custom steel fork.

I was watching an old MacGyver yesterday and he claimed bike frames had a lot of magnesium so he hacksawed and filed the tubes on an old ten speed and used the mixture to make a torch with the old seat tube which the cut through the lock on an armored car. So I'm thinking magnesium.

I actually have one. Five bike max rule. Including a hardtail. Arbitrary number, but it works for me. Has to be “one in/one out” and can’t see kicking any other bikes out of the stable.

I wish I had a Colnago EPS or similar. Or even a C50. Just to compare to my Look 585 Ultra, which I like.

Lugged stainless steel (unpainted, built by Dave Kirk). I am done buying bikes, so it truly is a regret.

I've always wanted a bike built by Nick Crumpton. They resonate with me.

Agree. I’ve ridden a mass produced carbon bike, didn’t do anything for me, but I suspect a crumpton would be a different experience.

Argonaut has always intrigued me and dare I say the custom Enve bike?

Of course, I do have a fork made by you on my CSI… that’s a consolation.

One material I don’t regret not owning is that Colnago NFT…
