R7000/R8000 left shifter troubles and fixes
Hi all,
Just wanted to see if others have experienced a similar problem with R7000 and R8000 left shifters that, over time, have trouble shifting the front chainring. I've traced the problem to a worn plastic bit inside where a metal hook is supposed to catch to shift the chainrings. My solution to date has been to cut up a bit of credit card and superglue it - which works fine but I don't think it's a good permanent solution. Ive ordered the plastic bit from Shimano and I remember it being stupidly expensive (but critical) but next time I'm going to use your solution!

3D print bike parts at the library and amaze the kids
Lucky you -- This is the perfect first print project! Small, and hence fast to print. My library only allows PLA (safe fumes), but use ABS if you can. PLA softens in really hot air, like when the bike is stored inside the car (my bike locker!) in summer. This part is not under stress/pressure when at rest (versus shifting), so PLA will probably be fine.

These plastic bits, poorly designed IMHO, keep failing for me. I've designed a new version. If anyone else wants the CAD, I'll post. But not fully tested in the crucible of the hills round these parts!
