Specialized SCS hub standard…HELP!
I’m beyond confused about Specialized’s SCS hub spacing standard so hoping the pros on this forum can help me!
I have a 2016 Specialized SWorks Crux which uses the short-lived Specialized SCS rear hub spacing standard. I love the bike and would like to upgrade from the crappy/heavy Specialized Axis SCS wheels that I currently use. Is there anyway to retrofit this bike to run current 12x142 thru axle wheels? I hear Hope made a SCS hub for a while, but no longer, so custom wheels no longer seem like an option. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx! |

Specialized has a specific hanger you'll need in addition to some axle caps. DT 350/240 are the easiest to acquire
Part number S162600004 (spzd) and 12x135 caps Can't remember the marketing fluff, but it's one of the dumber ones. Not as stupid as Cannondale with the 4mm offset rear wheel, but getting there Last edited by peanutgallery; 10-06-2024 at 03:06 PM. |

I was hoping it was this easy but I’ve had two Specialized shops tell me swapping axle caps won’t work, but they never explain why. Maybe they’re just trying to sell me a new bike. I found the non-SCS derailleur on EBay. Thanks a bunch!!!

Its a 2 part deal. Caps and hanger. 135 x 12 from what I can remember

Well, no. The big difference there is every rear wheel can be un-dished to fit the Ai offset with a few nipple turns. Take it to a bike shop if you don't own a nipple wrench, though the wheel that came on the bike probably works...

4mm totally jacks a wheel. It won't be right

Does this mean a new hanger and end caps will make the wheel fit but the necessary re-dishing is a deal killer?

Wheels mfg sells a "non-scs" hanger that you can bolt on. Then you can put on some nice wheels and go, after a derailleur adjustment, thats it. You can always put the old hanger back on if you need to use the original wheels again. |

I did this with a rear hanger swap and normal wheels. Read this link.

Call wheels MFG and they'll tell you which one to buy, they're $30-40 |

Hence why I suggested swapping the hanger and using a normal dish. Maybe you missed that part.

Sorry? Most rear wheels are built with uneven spoke tension in order to center the wheel, the frame offset corrects this.
If you meant "jacks up" as in "yoked up" or "muscled up", then you would be correct. |

I had to warranty one of these wheels and besides the specific RD hanger, I don't remember Specialized sending us anything extra; just a plain set of Roval C38 wheelset that they sent as replacement.
