Travel to Race - American Airlines Question

Hey folks, trying to book tickets to fly from Nova Scotia to Chattanooga for a race.
I'm a bit confused about the booking options. I did not have an AA account, and when I was checking flight options, it gave a couple of refund options as radio buttons on the screen, one for refund as credit, one for refund to original form of payment (for extra $$).

BUT, I then went and created an AA account, and went back to search for tickets, and instead of those radio buttons, its just two 'tabs' at the top of the flight choices, one saying 'lowest fare', the other 'refundable'. So I choose the refundable tab, but it doesn't give any options of what type of refund (flight credit vs $$).

I logged out of my account, and went back to try booking again, and the radio button options appear again.... Wonder if it has to do with my account being in Canada, different options?

Impossible to get through to their support...

Thx!

I call American’s help line from time to time and they give the option of calling you back in lieu of staying on hold.

Thx, I did use that option, they called back, and didn't know the answer lol.

That said, I kept googling, and finally found a discussion on Reddit. It sounds like if you take the 'refundable' option, and you do in fact end up requesting a refund at some point, it automatically goes to your account as credit towards a future ticket but you can then fill out an online request to have it changed to an actual refund.

Yeah... just got back from Tucson/Patagonia courtesy of American. Not sure I'll willingly book with them again.

Our flight from New England to Chicago was delayed due a flat tire. No big deal... at least so we thought. Flat tire was changed out within an hour and we were excited that we wouldn't miss our connection in Chicago. We didn't actually stress because we noticed that our connector was actually the same plane (landing and then taking off at the same gate!). SUPER!!! Little did we know, that fun was about to ensue! While we were in the air, customer service re-booked us on another plane for our second leg, at a much later time... When we landed, we received notification and went to the check-in agent for our original flight who informed us that they had already filled our 'old' seats and we were now looking at a 6hr layover. We put up a stink, politely, and managers were called. We were made to feel bad for being pushy about being put on standby... in the end it all worked out but we came away feeling like American was kind ****ty...

Then came our return... instead of an 8hr hop, we endured a 30hr odyssey complete with being billed for 'free hotel vouchers', 'accidental' ticketing to Springfield, Ill instead of Springfield/Bradley, CT, and... getting yelled at by gate people when politely trying to ask how if we needed to collect our bikes at baggage claim and transfer them ourselves to a different airline carrier (which they booked us on).

Total carnage... that said, not sure if that's unique to American these days.
