Peter Sagan says that younger cyclists lack respect

https://www.cyclingweekly.com/racing...s-that-respect

Quote:
"Back then it was the older riders who talked a lot, now the younger generation does too. Then I think: okay, you are strong, a 'champ', whatever. But you are younger. The younger generation lacks that respect. You see, you feel that. In the past you had the unwritten laws in the race. Now, forget it. There is total anarchy there."

The three-time world champion continues, suggesting this lack of respect is most evident with toilet breaks, or the lack thereof, signifying this shift. Sagan suggests pros no longer have the opportunity to stop and relieve themselves at the side of the road, otherwise they risk their position in the race...

You missed the "juicy" part.

Quote:
“Now everyone is peeing from their bicycles. I then ask: Is that normal? I understand if you ride the final of say the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix. But at a dead-end in the race? You don't lose anything by stopping for a while. And they don't even bother going to the edge of the road.

"No names, but they just piss in the middle of the pack. Everyone pees on everyone. Disgusting. And if you say something about it, you are supposedly arrogant, because you can't decide what someone else should do."

Sagan seems to forget that when he was in his early 20s older pros thought he lacked respect.

How do you say, “Pot, meet kettle” in Slovak?

The "Pro peloton" IMO is just a reflection of society today, I think cycling was one of the last to catch up to reflect what was happening in the real world...their bubble has finally and unfortunately burst.

Not sure that was the case for his behaviour within the peloton. Certainly true for his actions off the bike.

At least one pro has written about Sagan’s behavior on the bike, and it wasn’t complimentary… https://cyclingtips.com/2021/06/the-...-france-sagan/

Apparently, Peter Sagan is not Le Blaireau.

Based on the article I linked, Le Belette may be more appropriate...

The younger anything lacks respect, and always has. It's the one constant in the history of the world.

I am very interested, why Sagan is so polarized? People either love him or hate him. He rides a MTB and capable of sprints who happens to get over hills quite well. In history, most GOATs are polarized to a certain degree. Schumacher, Hamilton, Jordan.....etc.

What are some of his actions that cause such distain?

I started to ask if you're actually suggesting that Sagan is greatest cyclist of all time, but I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt instead.

Great observation! We give these folks such a huge spotlight on them at such a young age and expect to handle it 100% perfect... I say this because if they don't, we want to hang an effigy of them at the finish line...
