Segmented Ti Forks
Heya friends,
Segmented Ti forks, what are y’all’s feelings on 28.6 vs 31.8 legs?

I’m not sure most people have enough experience to have a preference? I would think we would want bigger to get the stiffness up closer to carbon and steel

If the fork will see disc brakes I'd opt for the larger blade.

Ended up going 31.8, just seemed the sensible thing to do for disc brakes and a 500 ATC.

That said and as a point of reference, while my Black Sheep Unicrown is clearly not segmented, maybe diameter and wall thickness considerations would carry. My fork blades are narrower than your choices at 25.4 (Like an old Fat City BOI) with a wall thickness of 0.7mm and built for disc. I weigh 145lbs, ride light on my bike and am very happy with the amount of flex for rigid mountain biking. Feels far closer to my Igleheart Steel Segmented BOI fork than it does to my custom production (overbuilt and dead feeling) Vicious steel or a Surly Unicrown mountain fork. You are already down the path, but just like to mention as I am not a fan of the ride quality of (some/many) overbuilt forks and own a number of custom steel and Ti forks because of those early experiences. Good luck and please follow up and share your Ti ride experience! |

Would be curious to know what the Bearclaw Ti fork measures out to. I think a couple people on this forum have said good things about those?

I can snag a measurement, mine arrived today. What measurement do you want?

I am wondering - are there any options out there for a ti, rim brake (midreach brake), gravel tire, 1-1/8" straight steerer fork?

Try chris dekerf. Sure he'd be able to do it, but expect to pay at least $1500CAD for it and wait a year.

Pretty sure Tiris makes one but I don't know how you feel about Aliexpress.

This discussion about segmented forks belongs in the "ugly bicycles" thread.
