Haha, yes, Peter is different. I met him many years ago riding the Devil Mountain Double, turns out he rode to start from San Francisco, then back home, making it an even 400 miles. Has done the same with Death Ride, riding from SF to Markleeville, riding the Death Ride, then riding back home.

A few years ago, we would be leap frogging at Terrible Two double century, and I was wondering why he was riding my speed. Turns out he would do another loop, making it a double Terrible Two. So, you get the point...

wow.

you have to wonder how people like that, with that type of capacity would do in the pro ranks. impressive stuff and truly in another spectrum than the one in which i operate.

Like Muz said, he's a very unique person. I saw him at the start of the Davis Double Century in 2016 and he had already rode over from San Francisco to the start.

Everyone has a priority level of where cycling is in their life. For him the needle is pointed squarely in the very high level of commitment of where one chooses or is able to focus time spent on a bicycle.

Good god, I've ridden the Death Ride. At the end I was so messed up inside that I couldn't eat the BBQ chicken. It was like my body didn't have the energy and coordination to chew and swallow. Or maybe it was confused on what to do with real food after having been fed gels and power bars all day. What's flooring me is that I can "relate" as I've ridden some of these roads and know the kind of effort I had to make. It's a lot less abstract than say watching TdF pros on tv and seeing the stats.

What kind of saddles and shorts are these people riding?

https://chaingreaseandsunscreen.blogspot.com/2019/01/
I completed my first Everest. I climbed 29k ft, with 70 repeats on a single hill. When I started out, a little before 6am, it was dark, cold, and lightly drizzling. The water made the steep descent on rim brakes a little sketchy, and only half the segment had street lights. The rain stopped, and the sun rose, and the road dried, and I could descend faster. The climb was too steep for anything but my lowest gear, and there was no point in switching out of it for the descent, because it was too steep to be worth pedaling.

Her longest ride is only 919 miles

Here is another amazing "everesting" like ride in the same area that a riding buddy did this week. It was done on the solstice. 94% dirt according to Strava, 10 ascents up Mount Tam and the last two were in heavy fog and rain without a light.

Amazing effort.
Maybe it's a Gyachung Kang - 15th highest peak at 26,089 ft

I did an 'Everest' ride two weeks ago on the 11th. Hawk Hill repeats in the Marin Headlands via MuCcollugh from Bunker Road:

I also did '4 Peaks' of the Bay Area a day after solstice just a few days ago. Tam + Diablo + Ham + Umunhum:

For me, it's the feet, not my butt that holds me back. Even with $1500 custom cycling shoes, they still start hurting after about 4 hours. I can keep pushing through for another few hours and I'll be okay, but by the time I start hitting 8 hours, they're in pretty bad shape.

Or at least I tell myself that's the only reason.
