Garmin 520 sync issues

I have a 520 that won’t sync to my IPhone. I have tried rebooting both but it seems the unit’s Bluetooth isn’t activating. Unit is only 2 yrs old. Any suggestions much appreciated.

sometimes it won't sync until i actually open up the garmin app (which is incredibly annoying), but might work.

Ive tried that too, which normally works but not anymore. And yes, that is annoying. Also happens with my Garmin Vivoactive but that is still working.
