This was NOT a "bike crash"
"The 58-year-old Knapp, an avid bicyclist who makes his offseason home in Danville, was riding on Saturday when a motorist swerved into the bike lane and hit the veteran coach"
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/...crash-n1274475 I guess the driver bears no responsibility. It's not reckless driving. It's a "bike crash" |

if you want to get away with murder scot-free, do it with an automobile. just make sure you're stone-cold sober and feign a bit of remorse.

Its half a step in the right direction. At least they didn't report it as an "accident". The word "crash" is fairly neutral.

But only if the other person is on a bicycle.

Don't have anything to add on the language in the article, but this hits close to home for me too. I bike on that road often. Never had an issue, because the road is wide and so is the bike lane, but not much you can do if a driver swerves into the bike lane.

Whenever our local news channel reports an auto taking out a pedestrian or bike, they always like to lead the report with "there was a car vs. pedestrian/bicycle accident" ... It always pisses me off and seems so disrespectful of the victim. The "vs." makes it seem like a game or event, gee who won?

I'm surprised the first thing they didn't say was weather he was wearing a helmet or not, like if he wasn't then it was even more his fault.

Why not just say "Jet's passing coach hit by car while cycling"? It's factual and more accurately describes what happens and the implication of blame is where it should be: on the car.

That's traffic. I hope he recovers.
I commend The Post (never thought I'd do that) for using accurate terminology to describe the event: "crash" instead of "accident," and "motorist" instead of "car." |

And now he’s passed. Doubt this will change much as complete idiocy behind the wheel without meaningful enforcement or prosecution is still a given in modern American life.
