I woke up in a pool of sweat last night thinking about disc brakes

I think I just found the biggest paradox in disc brakes -
If people are willing to sacrifice additional 300 grams to go disc to get better braking performance, then why not use deep carbon wheels with alloy braking tracks to begin with??? That's how much deep carbon wheels with alloy tracks weigh more than full carbon rim wheels anyways..... Plus rim brakes are more aero and easier to maintain... also rim frames gives you the option to shed that 300g at any moment by switching to full carbon wheels during good weather. am I missing something here?
So essentially this whole switch was indeed just a forced product retirement.....

That dream is nothing compared to the subterfuge of abuse you are likely to endure for this thread I fear.

disc brakes offer some other advantages other than braking power IMHO..

-Ability to use wider wheels.

-Ability to swap different width wheelsets without having to adjust brake width

-For bikes with integrated brakes (especially triathlon bikes), hydraulic disc brakes work so much smoother than pain in ass sticking cables etc.

I found it funny when I moved up to SC. There are more rim brakes then disc brakes, even with all the descending we do. But back in Florida where it's flat everyone is on disc.

I'm not against disc but only run them if necessary. I have them on my gravel bike because I want to run 40c+ tires. Other then that not needed.

Living in CA, I was #rimbrakesforever. Now in the NE and potentially moving to Seattle, my next bike or frame will almost certainly be disc. And yes, it feels a little strange to admit that, but hey -- a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

There are use cases where they make sense.

Forgot to mention that the comparison is only for road, for gravel or MTB I think disc is the only choice
