import duties on groupset?

Looking for info on buying a groupset from bike-components.de. Their price for Chorus 12 looks great, but if I'll get dinged for being over the $800 exemption, it might not be so good.
How can you calculate what the duty would be on a $900 purchase?
Any experience with this seller?
Thanks!

Easyship.com says it will be 5% of the total value, so $45.

FWIW, and recognizing this is just a single data point, but I bought a Chorus 12 group from Merlin a while back (pre-Brexit, if that matters); it was more than $800 but it just showed up at my door 3 days later, no duty.

One annoying thing is that if you are charged import duties, the shipping company will usually slap their own service fee on top of that, which may add significantly to the total. Still, even in the worst case scenario, you will probably come out ahead relative to ordering from the U.S.

Yep. The fee from DHL, FedEx, or UPS will be more than the import duty. Is what it is though. Just a cost of doing business..

Can't answer the duty question, but bike-components.de is my go-to online shop in Germany. Based on an order in August and an email inquiry earlier this month, they appear to be short staffed and less prompt than usual.

Can someone explain the difference between duty and VAT?

I tried to sell a 1996 frame to a guy in France.

VAT was $250, for a $1000 used frame. Of course, a deal breaker.

Confusing, because I bought it from France and it simply showed up at my door.

Trying to make the same type of Campy groupset purchase from Bike24. I'm sure this is by design, but I can't find any information on DHL's site about how they calculate any kind of 'service fee' schedule. Anyone have any idea?
