11-speed chain tool

i've been holding out to get the pedro's tool for 11-speed chains, but it doesnt seem to be available. lezyne now makes one, and if its as well made as the rest of their gear it should be fantastic. i think i'll be ordering one of these.

i havent heard any mention of it here so i thought i'd pass it along.

Looks pretty nice though it appears to be intended mostly for on the road use judging by its size. I already sprung for the Campy tool but I think I'll pick one of the Lezyne's up to keep in my tool bag. Thanks for the pointer, I didn't know they made one either.

Get the Campy tool. Everyone complains about the cost, and I agree that it is expensive, but you should rationalize it as a part of a group. Just think of it as a piece of the drive train and it isn't so difficult to swallow.

My problem with campy tool costs is it seems like every time a new shifting technology is introduced, new $200 chain tool.

I'd love to hear how the Lezyne works. Follow up please.

I have a campy tool but would also buy the lezyne if it works. The campy tool is massive.

The problem with the park one is you actually need two tools, both of which park makes. Campy 11sp chains need a specific breaker, but they also need to be peened. So you get the park breaker, then you have to buy the park peening tool for campy 11.

My guess is that is why the campy is so massive, as it peens and breaks.

If you are investing in new shifting technology, then why not invest in the correct and proper tool. It's part of the system.

The Park peening tools works great, its only about 40 bucks, so not too bad in the picture.

Most 10 speed chain tools will work fine to break an 11 speed chain. The thing to look for is proper bearing of the outer plate against the back of the tool. If the center U-shaped guide is too thick, the inner plates will hit the guide before the outer plate and it could foul-up the link. A little filing on the guide, on the side nearest the drive pin will fix that.

Shop level tool, well made, like most shop level tools. Not really a consumer tool, why it's so expensive, made to last years with almost daily use.

When I was shopping for a new group this year, I decided to stick with 10-speed solely due to the potential hassles when installing the 11-speed chain. If I ever go 11, I have no qualms about taking the bike to a shop to have the chain installed - they will have the necessary tools and I won't have to worry about the investment in, and eventual obsolescence of, Campy's expensive chain tools.
