handlebar without hole for Di2 bar end junction box wire
you know, this thing:
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/s...RoCTnYQAvD_BwE if i have a carbon bar that was not built for running internal cables but i want a hole to bring the junction box wire to the outside, would it be ok to drill one hole in the bar at that end of the drop portion kinda at the internal end of where a bar plug would go? know what i mean?

I cut off some of the plastic on the RS910 and created enough space for the wire to exit (when the RS910 is inserted into the bar end), and have that wire follow the bend and into the connector in the shifter. Otherwise, some people have been able to poke through the air bladder between the top and bend section of certain bars |

I considered this and then decided my face was worth spending $150 on a new carbon bar made to accomodate internal cables.
I've heard of some builders doing this with alloy bars. |

That is exactly what Mike Zanconato did on my new bike. I asked for a Salsa carbon cowbell bar which is not di2 compatible. He said he has drilled a small hole at the end of a few different brands of bars and never had any issues.

If you're planning to run wires externally but for where they need to connect with the junction box, a hole at the end of the bar, further down than you would ever put your weight, shouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to run the wires internally and have them exit somewhere closer to the stem, I wouldn't do it.

Just drill a small hole on the underside of the drop a few inches past the curve as was said above. Done it on many bars. And on many sailboat masts and booms which have a lot more stress than the underside of the drops towards the ends.
