My first dog was a purebred, but she sadly passed away at the age of six. Since then, we've been adopting rescue dogs. We now have two mixed-breed dogs, and we love them very much.

Yet another breeder incident in Lancaster County. Dudes in suspenders and straw hats aren't always nice

Our puppy mill rescue Lhasa "Chewie" is now 13 and I've been saying this may be the last year with each year that passes for like four years now.

I thought I was doing a good thing when we adopted him, but this little monster has been a handful from day one. He is unlike any other dog we've ever had. Fiercely food territorial, allergic to every known substance on the planet, grumpier than Oscar the grump from sesame street. I'm convinced the dog has just been dealing with pain and discomfort for most of his life. I give him allergy shots once a week, and have for about 10 years now. He is blind in one eye, and has either an ear infection, an eye infection, a skin infection, an abscessed tooth, joint problems, or something that needs medical attention continuously for as long as I can remember.

But, even with all of that we love him and he is a staple in our family.

No more puppy mill rescues, please. I've had great dogs over the years from non-professional breeders, and a few strays, but never from a registered show dog lineage.

I'm curious what a professional breeder would say on this topic.

From here on out I'm sticking with doodles.
