Campagnolo Expertise

A little background here.

I've got two bikes with Record groupsets. One 10 speed and the other 11 speed, both ultratorque cranksets.

The 10 speed is compact gearing while the 11 speed is classic gearing. Where I live I have no issues running either, BUT I would like to take the 11 speed bike into the Alleghanies this upcoming July.

Here's my question:

Would there be any issues swapping the 10 speed Record crank onto the bike with the 11 speed groupset? I'd swap them back when I get back home.

Thanks.

I don't have firsthand experience with this particular configuration change, but 99% certain the 10 speed crank will work just fine with the 11 speed chain, cassette, and derailleurs. There have been many posts over the years reporting this.

Edit: per comments below, I was only focused on the speeds -- you will certainly have to adjust the FD and possibly the chain to reflect the swap from standard to compact.

I’ve done the opposite - gone from 10sp/53-39 to 11sp/50-34. I suspect my experience might be similar. 10sp otherwise.

Spacing between the rings is the same, but if you are using the standard fder you will likely have to move it down a bit to fit the compact chainring.

Also you’ll have more links to take up now with the rder, you likely will have to remove a few links in your chain to keep things crisp.

Should not be a problem as long as you properly adjust everything.

I’ve run 11 spd Campy drivetrain bikes with 10 spd cranks… no issues whatsoever. That said, you may want a slightly shorter chain, with 53/39 > 50/34, as noted above.

Good reminder to shorten the chain, move the FD, and possibly longer shift cable.

All worth it to not spend upwards of $300 on a crankset
