Once things have compressed and stretched on initial install, etc..the shifting DOES stay very consistent and if it 'suddenly' gets wonky, the first thing to check...And yes, with the levers on the bike, can be challenging to get out.
BUT, at least it can't get 'lost' inside the shift guts...
