Lately I have a new favorite thing for long weekend rides. The night before the ride, I stop by a local Asian food place and get a monstrous plate of pork fried rice. I eat half of it that night, and then the other half in the morning right before the ride. I'm usually set if I keep the blast furnace going with gels and shotblocks.

I've also found that 3-4 beers the night before a race tends to do me just right. It blocks the nerves and anxiety well enough to fall right to sleep, and the liquid carbs have me feeling energetic in the morning.
