Single brand retailers are not unique - this is quite common in other industries (and was even fairly common in the bike industry). Ever go to a car dealership, and wonder why there they only sell one products from one car brand? Years ago, there were quite a few Schwinn dealerships, who only sold Schwinn bicycles and Schwinn brand accessories.

Even if they only sold one brand, most single brand retailers have been independently owned (such as car dealerships, or all the old Schwinn dealers). What is new is bike companies owning retail shops. In some industries, such vertical integration might be considered illegally anti-competitive. But the bike industry is been so fragmented, with so many suppliers, that it probably doesn't meet the legal test of anti-competitiveness.
