I don't think they planned on carrying it anyway. I could be wrong though. Maybe if you paid for the subscription you could get it. Watch it live on Rai (Italian tv). I know our uverse at&t cable has it as an option. I will upgrade mu cable packags for the race then dump it once the Giro is over.
