Best bike for what, exactly? That muddies things up a bit.

Best bike for travelling, riding on all kinds of roads with the ability to take 700x23 up to 700x32 tires - for me, it's the Hampsten Strada Bianca Ti S&S that I got last summer. It's not a race bike, though, or a lightweight climbing bike. But it fits me like a glove (custom) and can be ridden 12 months out of the year. Even takes fenders. Mind you, it's not slow. And it climbs just fine. But --

Best bike for a faster group with some climbing - Look 585 Optimum. Now that is a great bike.

Honorable mention - Serotta Fierte IT, ti and carbon mix. Does everything well.

All Shimano-equipped, BTW.

My rides over the last 25 years have included Trek 2000, Fondriest Top Level, Fondriest Carb Level, Serottta Colorado AL (aluminum), Masi Nuovo Strada, Merckx Corsa Extra, Univega Super Strada, Jamis Aurora, Centurion tourer (steel), Dean El Vado, Dean El Diente, Merckx AX, Hampsten SB (ti), Serotta Fierte IT (ti/carbon/), and Look 481, Look 585, and Look 585 Optimum.
