My "gotcha" monument with NFT's came when I was listening to a podcast about them and the guest said that they were for money laundering. Not all nefarious (and certainly not all for money laundering), but say you wanted to move money from one place to another or one person to another and avoid all scrutiny and taxes.
I may be late to this realization, but it made sense to me.
