The contact points remain fixed. Since the rear stanchions can pivot they can be positioned to contact top and bottom. I did it this way to fit different wheelbase lengths. Different wheel diameters like 650 will fit further into the contact points and since the rear ones are hinged it will move further over the wheel. I made the contact points for road sized tires. The design would be capable with modification to fit wider mountain bike tires. I had also considered adding fat tire bike capability. A fat tire bike would go in between the road bike positions. That would require a lot more modification.
