And the old universal method stayed with the wheel when you removed it for transport or service. You never had the option of setting it down on the ground or the side of your truck bed when you took off the wheel to load the bike into your car or truck.
Now, of course, you can arrive at the ride start with frame and wheel only to have one of those
SCHEISSE! moments as you recall the image of your thru axle sitting on the ground in your driveway. (Didn't happen to me, but did happen to a friend not that long ago.)
