The bike cradles usually have relief cuts in them for the cable to sit in without resting on the tube, at least the better hanging style racks and my older Thule are like this. If you mean in cases where the cable runs on the top of the top tube, then all bets are off and it will rub unless you put something under the cables. Platforms are still usually better at holding the bikes, they just take up more room and are more $$.
