I've had an RB1, RB2, and multiple Italian bikes, and the Italian bikes are better... I'm sorry. Not to knock the Bridgestones too much; they made solid frames but they were definitely lower rent than the best of what Europe was offering. That said there were eyelets on even the RB-1 but it's not like there was an abundance of clearance there. My 1982 colnago actually has more clearance than my early 90's RB1 did - it just didn't have eyelets. Bridgestone made some nice touring bikes though but lots of nice touring and sport-touring bikes came out of Japan back in the day.
