For the record... once i got a set of compact chainrings and the diameter of the bolt was smaller than what I needed, not the threaded version... dont ask, still dont know what year were those chainrings...
What you do is to just put the chainring in a vertical drill so the hole is in the right place.. since I had only english drill bits the holes needed to be finished like 30 seconds each with a rounded file...
