Depends on the person and neighborhood... I am very old school / scarred from a couple of bike thefts when I was young and penniless, so I tend to be more paranoid about these things than the next person. Still, I have my commuter bike in the garage, though we live in a nice neighborhood (*knock on wood*)...
Now, I loaned two bikes to some young people in my employ, and they keep them on the porch, unlocked. No theft yet, but............ Can’t people buy a $5 hook at the hardware store and find the 5 mins to put it into the wall / ceiling?.. or throw a cheap lock around as deterrent?..
