If you have to ride up really steep loose stuff requiring seated pedaling, a longer nose that's less awful to put your butt on can be helpful, so you can slide forward on the saddle to maintain a powerful pedaling position. I use a MTB-oriented saddle (Spesh Phenom) on my garvel baik for this reason.

But that's not "garvel speshific," it's "MTB specific."
