Thanks for the additional great tips, all!
I've been compiling them and trying to figure out an itinerary that'll allow me to ride a few times a week, even a short jaunt, and still do family stuff (which is the real reason we're out there). I'll also be working much of the time, which is a bit limiting. But I think I should be able to take a weekday morning to hit Palomar which seems like a fun experience. Hopefully a weekday morning Swami's ride and maybe a Saturday ride from UC Cyclery.
The kids are still very little, so probably not too much exploring yet. I cannot wait to go to Legoland with them.
