I run a short cage (EPS) derailleur with a road link (actually a ZTTO link from Aliexpress, 5 bucks vs 30). Works fine with a 32, although the chain is slack in the 50/11. So what? Never use that combo. Shortening the chain would make the 50-32 unusable, and I do occasionally hit that gear by mistake.
Campy will tell you this degrades the shifting and can shorten derailleur life. Probably, but I need the 32.
