Did you even read the article? That this is aimed at mtbs and the practical reasons why a derailleur like this would be of benefit? And others have pointed out. The existence of a patent doesn't mean much. May never get used. May appear at some time in the future that doesn't actually look anything like the patent drawing.
I am becoming more and more convinced that the Paceline is just a place for old roadies to yell at clouds.
