I went through the Swiss / German mechanical watch thing for about 10 years. Probably bought and sold about 100 like commodities and almost always made money. Then one day I looked in the watch box, realized I had a bunch of very expensive jewelry and sold them off. It's kind of like selling all of your bikes.
But I still liked watches, so I decided to collect watches that divers actually wore when divers wore dive watches rather than computors. That generally means Seiko and Citizen, who were the leaders in dive watch innovation. Cousteau and his crew wore Rolex dive watches because Rolex sponsored their expedition.
