I had this happen with our 12mo old iPad recently and assumed an issue w charger. I took it in and (under warranty) they replaced it - they said it was ‘dead’ . I never asked details, as I was so happy I received a new iPad!

Is it under warranty? I think more than a few of them have hardware issues. This message is of no help
