Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.
Several pics from last week’s ride from Templeton CA to Whale Rock Reservoir in Cayucos, CA. It was a beautiful day and the lupines were in full bloom. Felt strong going over the 2000 foot summit and dropped into the descent to Whale Rock Reservoir. About a mile from the reservoir, I was traveling about 25 mph over hard pack with a thin layer of sand and felt the front end go away in a gentle turn. No way to save it without hitting rocks in the creekbed so I laid it down and started to slide. I had plenty of time to think about how my butt was starting to burn so I put more weight on my palm and realized I had worn my worst thin gloves, wondered how long I would be sliding (ended up being 30-35 feet), and mused on the fact that there was a good reason that they used sand in sandpaper. No panic, no adrenaline so got up and rode 13 miles back over the hills back to my truck. Got home and debrided. Next day my left hip adductors and flexors were still hurting but the pain was not right so I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a pelvic fracture. There goes the Eroica.
Anyway, it was a beautiful day.
