OT: Can this coffee grinder be adjusted?

My son gave me a PeDe Koffie grinder. It seems to work fine, but yields a very coarse grind. Is it possible to adjust the coarseness somehow? (I saw nothing.)

You’re going to gring coffee in your workshop?

Neat looking piece regardless of the outcome.

Is there a thumb wheel in the back? It should be behind the axle the handle is attached to and is turned to adjust the grind.

Well, it's like this. My lovely wife wouldn't let me mount it on any walls in the house proper. Mounting it to a pole in my messy workshop seemed the best option. ;)

Yes, it is kinda cool. If I get the grind worked out I'll tackle the static electricity next. (I've heard spritzing the beans just before grinding helps.)

Thanks for the tip. There's nothing behind the mounting board. Will need to remove the grinder and check.

Spritz does work, I can attest.

If that is an "antique" its designer probably never imagined anyone wanting any grind as fine as some of us use today.

Some of the coffee purists might be upset with this advice, but you could try double grinding it.

Given the orientation of the crank I doubt it.

Does the crank arm length affect the grind? 175 or 180 might have been the norm back in the day, but now...

Crank length is 103mm. Kid back coffee grinder anyone?

On a less frivolous note, I pulled the grinder from the board and saw the star-shaped knob thing. It was already fully tightened, and loosening it didn't seem it make a difference. There is some play in the shaft and what looks like maybe part of a broken spring in the hopper. Maybe it's being repair.

Thanks for the responses. I'm more knowledgeable than a few hours ago. Maybe I'll stumble on another one at a Goodwill store or languishing on CL/eBay/FB Marketplace...

Well if the crank is on top and rotates horizontally it may have a conical burr...and be adjust able. I'm just guessing but my hunch is that the burrs in this are rotating like a meat grinder if that makes sense.

Wow - that's really short. Maybe it was a custom track grinder designed to handle high-bank turns.

There are a couple for sale here: http://oldcoffeegrinders.com/europea...s-or-mills.htm. Perhaps they can give you additional information about your grinder.

you should probably remove it and completely disassemble it for cleaning/inspection anyway.
the amount of space between the crank's shaft where it enters the grinder housing could be an indicator that the burrs are worn out or damaged. that space should be much more "tight". maybe a bushing is missing.
the adjusting wheel should be on the back side, and should be adjustable for various grinds, see below.
